I was wondering what level of brightness I should have my iMac's monitor when doing colour correction. I have known some people to turn the brightness way up when doing final colour correction.
Is there a middle ground you should set it to?
Just wondering the average setting as it will be relayed as this final result on screens, projectors, and the internet.
Your monitor brightness shouldn't be a factor. it's not something you should concern yourself with. You cannot use the FCP interface for color correcting. It's not accurate. Export a QT and compare it to FCP and you'll see it's different. And if you are grading for projection...you need an external monitor. By that I mean you need a video IO device like found on decklink.com or AJA.com. That will send a proper signal to an external broadcast monitor, or HDTV. Budget systems can use an HDTV...but it needs to be calibrated. And you need an IO card from one of those two places....a computer connection out to this TV won't send a proper video signal for grading, It'll send a computer signal.
Now....grading for the web is fine on your computer...but still, the interface in FCP 7 and Color....most apps, isn't accurate. FCX is, I hear. Premiere Pro is. Resolve...not quite. That one's tricky.
